The Usha Silai School initiative, launched in March 2011, aims to empower economically marginalized rural women by providing them with essential tailoring and entrepreneurial skills. This program helps them establish their own sewing-based micro-enterprises, paving the way towards economic empowerment. The initiative is inclusive, supporting women who are HIV positive, widows, rape survivors, and differently abled, among others.
The national lead for partnerships in the Usha Silai School program will play a crucial role in establishing and nurturing collaborations with various stakeholders at the national level. The responsibilities include:
Details of the Job Profile
- Qualifications: Graduate / Post Graduate
- Age: 35 – 45 years
- Work experience: At least 10 years in the skill development / social development area with 5 years experience of working on Government / Corporate partnerships or resource mobilization.
Strategic planning:
- Developing strategies and plans to foster partnerships that align with the goals and objectives of the Usha Silai School program.
- Devise different approaches for Corporates, for Government entities for institutions like ADB and World Bank and other entities.
- Prepare plans for USS to achieve the beneficiary reach planned through large scale government partnerships.
- Plan and support regions for approaching partners in different states
- Identify and engage with key stakeholders to build alliances and support for the program.
- Develop approach notes, concept papers, presentations and other mechanisms for approaching partners.
- Resource Mobilization:
- Working to secure funding, resources, and in-kind support from partners to sustain and expand the reach and impact of the Usha Silai School initiative.
Prepare all necessary documents and papers to make USS ready for different kinds of partnerships.
Prepare and maintain a national partnership tracker and share it every 15 days with USS Head and National Operations Head.
Support the existing USS NGO partners in procuring non-Silai School projects for their own sustainability.
- Working to secure funding, resources, and in-kind support from partners to sustain and expand the reach and impact of the Usha Silai School initiative.
- Relationship management:
- Cultivating strong relationships with partners to ensure effective communication, collaboration, and mutual understanding of goals and expectations with partners.
- Maintaining relationship with the partner to expand the program to newer geographies.
- Managing existing partnerships and sustaining them beyond the one-year contract period.
- Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Collaborating with partners to establish monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to assess the effectiveness and impact of partnership activities and make necessary adjustments for improvement.
- Ensure that regular reports are shared with partners about the progress of the program.
- Advocacy and Policy engagement:
- Advocating for the program and its objectives through various channels, including media, events, and conferences, to raise awareness and garner support from a wider audience.
- Engaging with policymakers and government officials to advocate for policy changes or initiatives that support the objectives of the Usha Silai School program and promote the empowerment of women through skill development and entrepreneurship.
- Budgeting, negotiations and tracking:
- Work closely with the finance team on budgeting
- Negotiate with the concerned partners for budget finalization
- Track deliverables and receivables against each partner
- Developing Juniors / team members:
- Guide the team on the partnership process and hand hold them for regional partnerships
- Develop the capacities of the team members on developing partnerships and relationship management
- Support in other miscellaneous activities:
- Preparation of content for various reports, social media content etc.
- Training of juniors
Required skills / competencies / attitude
- Should have an understanding of the skill development sector
- Have a sound understanding of the how the government works
- Ability to network with ministries, government departments
- Have an understanding of the government tender process
- Ability to understand and make budgets and proposals for the government
- Willing and open to travel at least 10 days a month and more if required
- Guide the team and build their capacities for government partnerships
- Have a problem-solving approach
- Open attitude towards learning and new ideas
