Vikshaa is pleased to announce a Call for Papers for a special issue dedicated to exploring the theme of the Body and Literature. This issue will examine how the body is represented, perceived, and explored in literary texts across different genres, periods, and cultural contexts. We invite submissions from scholars, researchers, and academics interested in the intersections of literature, body theory, and cultural studies.
- Peer Review Process: All submissions will undergo a double-blind peer review process. Authors will receive feedback and may be asked to make revisions before the final decision is made.
- Publication Fee: There are no submission or publication fees for this special issue.
Themes and Topics
This special issue aims to engage with a broad range of theoretical perspectives, literary forms, and historical contexts to explore the body in literature. Possible topics may include but are not limited to:
- Representation of the Body: How is the body portrayed in different literary genres (novels, poetry, plays, etc.)?
- The Body and Identity: How do literary works explore the relationship between the body and identity, including gender, race, class, and sexuality?
- The Body and Power: Analysis of how the body is used as a site of power, control, and resistance in literature.
- The Abject Body: Examining representations of illness, disability, trauma, and the grotesque in literature.
- The Body and the Self: The exploration of the body as a vessel for the self, consciousness, and subjectivity in literary texts.
- Cultural Constructions of the Body: How do different cultural and historical contexts shape the representation and meaning of the body in literature?
- The Body and Performance: The role of performance in literature, particularly in plays, oral traditions, and texts that engage with the physicality of the body.
- The Body and the Environment: Exploring the interaction between the body and its surrounding physical, social, or political environment in literature.
- Materiality and the Body: Understanding the relationship between the material body and literary representations through the lens of material culture and object studies.
We welcome contributions that apply literary analysis, cultural theory, critical theory, feminist studies, queer theory, postcolonial studies, disability studies, and more to the theme of the body in literature. The issue seeks to bring together diverse voices and perspectives on how the body functions as a symbol, site, and agent in literary works.
Submission Guidelines
- Manuscripts should be between 4,000 to 7,000 words (including references).
- All submissions must adhere to MLA 9th Edition formatting guidelines.
- Please submit a 250-300 word abstract along with the full manuscript.
- Manuscripts must be original and unpublished, and should not be under review elsewhere.
- Authors should provide a brief biography (100-150 words) along with their submission

हम साहित्य में शरीर पर साहित्यिक विश्लेषण, सांस्कृतिक सिद्धांत, आलोचनात्मक सिद्धांत, नारीवादी अध्ययन, क्वीयर सिद्धांत, उत्तर औपनिवेशिक अध्ययन, विकलांगता अध्ययन, और अन्य दृष्टिकोणों का प्रयोग करने वाले अनुदानों का स्वागत करते हैं । इस अंक का उद्देश्य इस विषय पर विभिन्न दृष्टिकोणों को उजागर करना है कि साहित्यिक कृतियों में शरीर एक प्रतीक, स्थल और एजेंट के रूप में किस प्रकार कार्य करता है।
