Who can apply?
The course is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students, researchers and faculty members. The knowledge of elementary topics in analysis and linear algebra including eigenvalues, eigenvectors, Hermitian, unitary and normal matrices, and diagonalisation of matrices by unitary matrices will be expected.
Session by: Prof. Tanvi Jain, Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi Centre, New Delhi
Abstract of the Session
We address the fundamental question of the behaviour of eigenvalues as functions of matrices – discuss the continuity of eigenvalues and give some key eigenvalues inequalities. The plan is to cover the following
- Quick review of basic concepts. Perturbation bounds for eigenvalues of Hermitian matrices, Weyl’s perturbation theorem.
- Perturbation bounds in the Frobenius norm.
- Continuity of eigenvalues of arbitrary matrices.
- Perturbation bounds for eigenvalues of unitary and normal matrices.
