Master Trainee in Predictive Microbiology

Predictive microbiology is a widely applied and valuable tool used by the Food Industry to ensure the safety and quality of its products. Recently, the consumer demand for plant-based products has dramatically increased triggering the need to validate control measures to ensure the quality and the safety of plant-based products.

As a Master Trainee in our Food Safety Microbiology group your main activity will be to work on the inactivation of spoilage organisms in selected plant-based milks and validate the developed models in various novel plant-based products made from different proteins. You will be part of a dynamic research team and you will work under the supervision of a project manager and a PhD student.

We are looking for a committed, motivated and proactive Master student who is interested in gaining insights into the latest developments and challenges of the food industry.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Literature review and laboratory training (month 1)
  2. Data collection on inactivation in plant-based milks (months 2 to 4)
  3. Data analysis: (months 3 to 5)
    a. Analyze the inactivation results & build the inactivation models
    b. Validate the inactivation models in the matrices of interest
  4. Final project report preparation (month 6)

Education and Experience

  • Master student in Food Science, Microbiology, exposure to predictive microbiology is a plus
  • Previous experience/training in microbiology lab, ideally in food microbiology
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office package
  • Proficient level of written and spoken English is essential
