The significance of women in fostering economic development has been globally acknowledged. Punjab and Haryana, two agrarian states of India, have historically been at the forefront of the country’s Green Revolution, significantly contributing to India’s agricultural output. These states, with their fertile lands and hardworking populace, have showcased impressive growth and development over the decades. However, economic development remains incomplete without the full and equal participation of women. Despite considerable progress in various sectors, gender disparities continue to impede the holistic development of these regions. Women in Punjab and Haryana face multifaceted challenges that hinder their economic participation. Socio-cultural norms, limited access to education and vocational training, inadequate healthcare, and restricted property rights are some of the barriers that need to be addressed. Additionally, women often lack access to credit, market linkages, and technology, further restricting their entrepreneurial ventures and participation in the formal economy. The global evidence is clear: when women are economically empowered, the entire society benefits. This national seminar aims to explore and strategize the ways in which women can drive economic growth in Punjab and Haryana, aligning with the national goal of Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
