Student Competitions on the theme of Climate Change

About the STUDENT COMPETITION

In the third edition of the Digital Delhi Conclave (DDC), we are coming up with student competitions on the theme of Climate change. The students can submit posters, videos or an app to participate in the competition.

The purpose of this competition is to bring together scientists, content creators, and environmentalists and discuss climate action. We anticipate this to facilitate the exchange of ideas, techniques, and data to break new frontiers of research on the topic of climate action.

The entries are invited on the themes of below (but will not be limited to):

  • Sustainability and technology
  • Livelihoods, community and climate justice
  • Sustainable cities
  • Climate mitigation and adaptation
  • Climate financing
  • Political ecology
  • Land-use pattern and conservation
  • Climate resistance and activism
  • Gender and climate
  • Caste and environment
  • Race, class and environmentalism
  • Green technology
  • Blue economy
  • Digital apps, AI and climate change

RELEASE OF THE POSTER/ VIDEO/ APP DEMO

  • All the posters, videos, and app demos will be uploaded to the Digital Delhi Conclave website 10 days before the event for public voting.
  • The best voted entry will get a chance to present their entries (poster/ video/app) during the DDC21 event.
  • The final decision of shortlisting the entries will be of the DDC21 organising team.

GUIDELINES FOR VIRTUAL POSTER PRESENTATION

Due to the virtual nature of the conclave, we are only accepting Electronic Posters (E-Posters) in PDF format. Printed posters or photographs of printed posters will NOT be accepted.

Poster Submission Deadline: 25th November 2021

The poster should be a clear visual presentation on the topic of climate change and sustainable future and should meet the following criteria:

Title of the Poster

  • It is recommended to keep the title of the poster self-explanatory.

Poster size and format

  • The poster must be submitted in PDF format.
  • It is recommended to make your poster in PowerPoint (Landscape or Portrait) and then save it as a PDF before uploading it to the DDC website.
  • Make sure that you do not exceed the limit of 1 slide/page for your E-Poster.

Your Information

  • The top of the Poster should display, in the lettering of Bold (Times New Roman), the following information: Title of your paper, Name(s) of the Author(s) and Affiliation(s).

Lettering

  • Kindly use both UPPER and lower case letters for general content, as all-capital text is difficult to read.
  • It is recommended to use Times New Roman font style for the content of the poster.
  • Make sure there is enough contrast between the colour of the text and the poster’s background.
  • Text and presentation should be in ENGLISH only.

Content of the Poster

  • Ensure that the specific sections (such as the background, methods, results, and conclusions) are easy to locate in the poster.
  • Try to keep the text easy to read and concise. The poster should have a clear message, a logical layout and be easy to comprehend.
  • Avoid the use of complete sentences and instead, use short text in bullet point format.
  • Avoid using watermarks that may detract from the readability of your poster.

Illustrations

  • Illustrations are the most critical part of the poster and will attract the most attention.
  • Colourful charts and graphs are the easiest to read. Explanatory illustrations should be used instead of text whenever possible.
  • Use only static images, and do not embed any videos or animation in your poster.
  • Try to utilise the space on your poster as creatively as possible to attract the audience and make sure that the images are easy to understand.

  • Fill on all the necessary information before 25th November 2021.

GUIDELINES FOR VIDEO PRESENTATION

We are hosting a documentary/short film contest for the DDC 21’. The poster should be a clear visual presentation on the topic of climate change and sustainable future and should meet the following criteria:

Submission Deadline: 25th November 2021

RULES & TERMS

  • Films must be 2-3 minutes long (a buffer of 10 sec will be provided for the name of the creators). Submissions that exceed this limit will be disqualified automatically.
  • The film should be on the theme of the event. Films not related to the theme will not be considered.
  • Once submitted, a film cannot be withdrawn from consideration.
  • No part of the film can be copied from somewhere. In case of any copyright claim, the responsibility will be on the creator and not on IIIT-Delhi or Digital Delhi Conclave organisers.
  • If a film is submitted with incorrect, erroneous or false information, IIIT-Delhi reserves the right to disqualify the film from consideration.
  • Accepted entries will be made public 10 days before the event date for voting. The highest voted video(s) will be played during the event. The creators will also get a chance to interact with the speakers.
  • All the entries must mention their Institute/ Organisation.
  • Upload the video on Youtube and then share the link in the form below. Please add a detailed description of the video on YouTube.

GUIDELINES FOR APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT

  • Develop an app related to the mentioned themes using one or more of the datasets given below. You are welcome to make use of other climate action related datasets as well.
  • The app can demonstrate causal relations, predictions or interesting patterns and visualisation of the data.
  • The functionality of the app along with the potential users/organisations interested in the app should be clearly mentioned in the app description.
  • Create a demo video for your app. Video must be 2-3 minutes long (a buffer of 10 sec will be provided for the name of the creators). Submissions that exceed this limit will be disqualified automatically.
  • Once submitted, an entry cannot be withdrawn from consideration.
  • In case of any copyright/ plagiarism claim, the responsibility will be on the creator and not on IIIT-Delhi or Digital Delhi Conclave organisers.
  • If a demo/app is submitted with incorrect, erroneous or false information, IIIT-Delhi reserves the right to disqualify the video from consideration.
  • All the entries must mention their Institute/Organisation.
  • Upload the video on YouTube and then share the link in the form below. Please add a detailed description of the app on YouTube.
  • Share the link to the video in the form.
