Digital technology is a vital driver of India’s economic growth and social equity, enhancing access to information, public services, and markets while addressing infrastructure deficits. Its transformative potential, coupled with the adaptability of India’s youth, positions the nation as a global leader. However, a significant digital divide persists, with 64% of the urban population having internet access in 2017 compared to only 20% in rural areas, largely due to economic and cultural factors. With most Indians residing in rural areas, efforts to bridge this divide have empowered economically disadvantaged communities through wireless internet, digital platforms, and e-services. Farmers now connect to national markets, access crop price data, and adopt technological advancements, boosting productivity and income. Despite progress in digitizing public services, challenges remain. This seminar will explore how digital tools enable new employment opportunities, diversify rural economies, and reduce. dependence on agriculture, fostering resilient and sustainable livelihoods. Such diversification is crucial for achieving long-term economic stability and the goals of VVB@2047.
