Organization: The Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) is a non-profit organization focused on rigorous interdisciplinary knowledge generation for use by policy and practice, towards environmental conservation and sustainable, socially just development.
Project AMP-Himalaya is a 5-year initiative focused on conserving biodiversity, restoring landscapes, and enhancing human well-being in the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR). To achieve these goals, the project prioritizes three key areas: assessment, monitoring, and conservation of biodiversity; restoration of multi-functional landscapes; and fostering nature-based rural livelihoods alongside building climate change resilience.
The project is being implemented across three distinct landscapes in the IHR: the Khangchendzonga Landscape, covering the Darjeeling hills of North Bengal and Sikkim; the Trans-Himalayan Landscape in Ladakh, characterized by agro-pastoral systems and rangelands; and Arunachal Pradesh, renowned for its vast green cover, ethnic diversity, and rich biodiversity.
