This lecture highlights on the evolving strategies which libraries can implement to improve the user engagement and encourage a vibrant reading culture. It will address how to transform libraries into spaces that not only house knowledge but actively attract and retain users through innovative outreach, programming, and partnerships. From experimenting with interactive reading initiatives and hosting engaging community events to leveraging digital platforms for enhanced visibility, this session will present actionable steps to drive foot traffic and deepen users’ connection with library resources. Attendees will gain insights into developing creative engagement strategies tailored to diverse user groups, explore techniques for data-driven assessments of these initiatives, and learn ways to amplify the library’s presence both on-campus and within the broader community.

About the speaker:

Dr. Sanjay Banavar is the Director of Libraries at Ahmedabad University, bringing over two decades of experience to the field. Previously, he served as Librarian at Tripura University and held significant roles at Infosys Ltd. and CMDR. His expertise includes online databases, copyright, and innovative library services, along with a deep interest in Kannada literature. Dr. Banavar has published 15 papers and delivered numerous invited lectures. He has also organized prestigious conferences like INFLIBNET PLANNER. He received the Best Librarian award in 2019 from the Karnataka State Government through the Department of Public Libraries for his significant contributions to library and information science. He served on the Royal Society of Chemistry India Library Advisory Board in 2019 and was part of the Tripura State Public Library Legislation drafting committee. Dr. Banavar has been associated with SLA for over 15 years, serving on the editorial committee in 2009 and the nomination and membership committees in 2021. He is also a member of various national and international library associations and high-level committees.
