Azim Premji University, Bikkanahalli Main Road, Sarjapur,Bengaluru invite young aspiring individuals (up to 25 years) to apply to the Coasts and Oceans of Life Internship Programme, the fourth in our annual climate festival series.
About the Internship
- Apply on or before: 26 December 2024
- Stipend and Mentorship: All selected interns will receive mentorship and a stipend upon successful completion of their internship.

Photo-essay Internship – For individuals passionate about storytelling through images and videos
Public Art Internship – For artists, designers, and creative practitioners to conceptualise and create public art installations
Coasts and oceans shape human culture, biodiversity, and livelihoods, making them central to life on Earth. This series, Coasts and Oceans of Life celebrates the beauty, mysteries, and challenges of coastal and marine ecosystems.
Selection Process
Shortlisted candidates for both tracks will be invited for an interview based on their submissions. Selected interns will:
- Be mentored by experts
- Attend curated workshops
- Develop and refine their submissions for the final showcase at the Coasts and Oceans of Life festival in November 2025
Criteria for Selection
- Open to individuals up to 25 years, including young professionals
- Applicants under 18 years require parental/guardian consent
- Must have skills and equipment (for photographers) or relevant experience (for public art interns)
- Final works must adhere to the guidelines provided
Details of Photo Essay Internship
Capture compelling narratives through the lens, focussing on themes such as:
- Art and Folklore of Coastal Communities
- Marine Biodiversity and Flagship Species
- Balancing Coastal Development and Conservation
- Living Along the Coastlines: Traditions and Livelihoods
- Fragility of Marine Ecosystems
Submission Requirements:
- A 300-word storyline detailing your narrative, the coastline or marine ecosystem you will document, and why your story stands out
- A 1‑minute video (Maximum 30 MB) introducing yourself, summarising your idea, and why you should be selected
- 5‑standout photographs that showcase your photography skills and artistic perspective
Photography Guidelines for Selected Interns:
- Images should be of high quality (minimum 300 dpi resolution) and at least 3 – 5 MB in size
- Both portrait and landscape formats are acceptable, but framing should be clean and well-composed
- Photos should capture vivid details, avoid overexposure, and be clear of distractions
- Ensure minimal editing; submissions should retain natural colours and authenticity

Details of Public Art Installation
Design and create innovative public art installations that celebrate the essence of coasts and oceans. This internship supports creative individuals working in visual art, design, technology, and storytelling.
Themes:
- Artistic Narratives of Marine Ecosystems
- Mapping Coastlines and Cultural Histories
- Eco-friendly Creations Representing Oceanic Fragility
Submission Requirements:
- A 500-word concept note including title, description, theme, proposed methodology, and timeline
- An installation design plan detailing conceptual diagrams, material usage, and sustainability considerations (e.g., upcycled or eco-friendly materials)
- 5 images showcasing your previous installations (portfolio) that highlights your creativity and expertise
