INFLIBNET Launches National Librarian's Day 2026 Campaign: "#LoveLibraries #EmbraceKnowledge"

New Delhi | August 2026: The Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) Centre, an Inter-University Centre (IUC) of the University Grants Commission (UGC), has announced a nationwide campaign to celebrate National Librarian's Day on 12 August 2026, commemorating the birth anniversary of the Father of Library Science in India, Prof. S. R. Ranganathan.

The campaign, themed #LoveLibraries #EmbraceKnowledge, aims to recognize the invaluable contributions of libraries and Library & Information Science (LIS) professionals in promoting knowledge, research, education, and lifelong learning across the country.

As part of the celebration, INFLIBNET has invited librarians, faculty members, researchers, students, and knowledge professionals to endorse the campaign by sharing the message:

"I endorse the INFLIBNET campaign for Libraries #LoveLibraries #EmbraceKnowledge."

Participants can also generate a personalized National Librarian's Day 2026 Digital Endorsement Badge by registering through the official campaign portal.

How to Participate

Interested participants can visit the campaign portal and complete the registration by providing:

  • Mobile Number
  • Designation
  • Affiliation

After verifying their mobile number, participants will be able to generate and download their customized National Librarian's Day 2026 digital endorsement badge.

About National Librarian's Day

National Librarian's Day is observed every year on 12 August to honour the birth anniversary of Prof. Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan, whose pioneering contributions transformed library science in India. His Five Laws of Library Science continue to guide library professionals worldwide.

The festival will feature a diverse selection of short films, animations, and feature films carefully curated and moderated by renowned filmmakers and our faculty to create a rich and immersive cinematic experience.

Our festival celebrates the art of filmmaking and champions value-based video productions that embody both aesthetic appeal and technological excellence. It serves as a platform for filmmakers worldwide to showcase their creativity and skills.

We believe in the transformative power of films to inspire, educate, and transform. Our festival is not merely a showcase of films but also a forum for filmmakers, artists, and enthusiasts to converge, engage in dialogue, and exchange ideas. We are committed to fostering a filmmaking culture grounded in values, ethics, and social responsibility.

Our festival features a diverse array of films, including short films, feature films, documentaries, and animations. Our selection committee, comprising seasoned industry professionals, ensures that the films screened meet our stringent criteria for quality and artistic merit.

In addition to film screenings, we organize workshops, panel discussions, and master classes, providing aspiring filmmakers with opportunities to learn from industry experts. The festival also serves as a networking hub, facilitating connections within the film community.

MAIN COMPETITION

  • As part of the festival, we will host a National-level short film competition. Cash awards of ₹25,000, ₹15,000, and ₹10,000 will be awarded for the first, second, and third prizes, respectively. The deadline for the submission of entries to this section will be August 01, 2026.

CAMPUS SECTION

As part of the festival, we also host a campus short film competition. A cash award of ₹10,000 will be awarded for the best film. Only a consolation prize will be given if the number of entries is less than 10. By campus film, it is meant any film directed by a student while studying in a school/college. The contestants in this section will have to produce an authorization letter from the head of the institution. The deadline for the submission of entries to this section will be August 01, 2026.

Call for Nominations: National Awards to Teachers

The Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, Government of India invites nominations for the National Awards to Teachers 2026 for Higher Educational Institutions and Polytechnics. The awards seek to recognise and honour distinguished faculty members for their exceptional contributions towards teaching-learning, innovation, research, institutional development, student mentorship and community outreach.

Details of the Nominations

  • Applications to be submitted through the National Awards Portal
  • Applicant should not be above 55 years of age as on the last date of submission
  • Last date to submit nominations: 05 July 2026
  • Modes of Nomination (On Janbhagidari basis)
  • Ceremony Details: The ceremony is held on 5th September every year

The award is open to regular faculty members of colleges, universities, higher educational institutions and polytechnics in India fulfilling the prescribed eligibility criteria. Applicants should have a minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level and should not be above 55 years of age as on the last date of submission of nominations. Vice-Chancellors, Directors and Principals, whether regular or officiating are not eligible to apply. However, individuals who have previously held such positions and are below 55 years of age and currently in active service are eligible.

Nomination Details

  • Self-Nomination
  • Institutional Nomination: By Heads of HEls/Polytechnics (Director/ Principal/ VCs)
  • Peer Nomination: By Colleagues of the same university/ institute/college/ Polytechnic, where the nominee holds regular employment.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Regular faculty members of Colleges/Universities/ Higher Educational Institutions/Polytechnics in India
  • Minimum 5 years of full-time teaching experience at UG and/or PG level

Decoration

Each awardee shall be presented with the following.

  • i) A medal
  • ii) A certificate
  • iii) Cash Prize of Rs 50,000/-

Selection Process

Selection Procedure for NAT-2026 will follow two-step process.

  • 1) Preliminary Search cum Screening Committee for initial shortlisting of candidates
  • 2) Committee of ‘Jury’ for final section of awardees from the shortlisted candidates
