Concept Note

“We make roads by walking” says Paulo Freire, the educationist who saw the purpose of education in and out. Higher education is intended with a purpose of contributing to the social, political and economic health and this if possible only through practice of ethics in teaching-learning, administering, Testing Evaluating & Assessing, Certifying, Training to be a leader in the choice of career/vocation.

The guidelines – “Mulya Pravah 2.0: Inculcation of Human Values and Professional Ethics in Higher Education Institutions” have been revised to include key recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) announced on 29th, July 2020, including the vision which proposes. curriculum and pedagogy of Higher Education Institutions (HEls) to develop among the students a deep sense of respect towards the Fundamental Duties and Constitutional values, bonding with one’s country, and a conscious awareness of one’s roles and responsibilities in a changing world, including universal human values of truth (satya), righteous conduct (dharma), peace (shanti), love (prem), nonviolence (ahimsa), scientific temper, citizenship values, and also life-skills; lessons in seva/service and participation in community service programmes as an integral part of a holistic education.

Globethics, with its top down international perspective, comes out with a methodology to empower teachers at Higher Education Institutes to stand by their commitment to ethics by giving them focussed and customised training to explore, and capacitate to create an ecosystem to promote ethics in higher education aligning with the NEP-2020 goals. Therefore, a Faculty Development Programme is designed to achieve that goal, where a faculty becomes an active partner.

To effect a transformation, faculty need to be respected for their role-model conduct and such faculty become the most respected, and when they are respected they can effect transformation. Therefore, that is the aim of this FDP. It is a journey and not a destination, in which we are looking forward to a life-long partnership with institutes of higher education.

Rani Anna Government College for Women collaborates with Globethics to effect this transformation and collaborates on the journey to promote Ethics in Higher Education. It is mandatory for all the participants to submit a questionnaire before attending the FDP.
