NTA Seeks Subject Matter Experts for New Three-Year Academic Panel

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially invited expressions of interest from experienced educators, researchers, and academicians to join its newly constituted three-year academic panel as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).

The move comes as a major step toward reforming the national assessment system and enhancing the quality, security, and accuracy of high-stakes national exams.

The Big Picture

Following recent scrutiny and controversies surrounding national competitive exams, the NTA is looking to overhaul its question-banking and vetting processes. By inducting top-tier academic minds into this three-year panel, the agency aims to ensure that future test papers focus heavily on high-order thinking and application-based questions, rather than rote learning.

Core Responsibilities

Selected experts will be deeply involved in the confidential test-design process:

• Item Authoring & Review: Designing and vetting advanced test questions.
• Paper Moderation: Structuring papers to maintain neutral difficulty levels.
• Translation: Translating test material into various regional Indian languages.
• Answer-Key Verification: Reviewing and resolving student challenges post-examination.

Strict Eligibility Rules

To maintain absolute integrity, the NTA has set strict guidelines for applicants:

• Who Can Apply: Current or retired university professors, research scholars, and senior school educators with deep subject expertise.
• The Coaching Bar: Any individual actively associated with, or employed by, a private coaching institute is strictly barred from applying.
• Conflict of Interest: Applicants must officially declare that no immediate family members are appearing for NTA-conducted exams.
