Ever since the first use of the term collective memory, memory studies as a multidisciplinary field has evolved exploring memory in terms of individualistic and collective perspectives. We have psychologists exploring memory from an individualistic perspective and sociologists looking from its varied societal dimensions. Analysing the different functional systems of memory like encoding, consolidation, retrieval and binaries (remembering/forgetting, reconstruction/ deconstruction), memory studies offers multiple research possibilities encompassing a wide range of topics and methodologies for study.
