National Translation Mission (NTM) aspires to make Knowledge Texts accessible in Indian languages through translation. English is the medium of instruction in higher education, especially in most of the colleges and universities of India. Therefore, most of the prescribed texts are also available in English. For this reason, students from different sections of society cannot access the knowledge available in English. NTM attempts to breach this language barrier through translation.
NTM organizes the Translators’ Skill Development Workshop to create a body of translators who can be involved in knowledge text translation, post-editing, and validation. In this connection, NTM wishes to organize a seven-day Translators’ Skill Development Workshop for Malayalam from 21 to 27 February 2024 in collaboration with the UGC Centre for Endangered Languages of Kerala, Department of Linguistics, University of Kerala, Kariavattom Campus, Thiruvananthapuram for the benefit of teachers, research scholars and students of Kerala. The program will cover both arts and science disciplines in which the experts who are familiar with the texts selected by NTM and the translators who are translating these texts into Indian languages will orient the participants about the significance of these texts and discuss issues/problems that need to be addressed while translating the texts into Malayalam.
