The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) invites applications for 1 Research Associate/Project Associate position funded by Gujarat State Archaeology.

Project Title

Mutifaceted Analysis of Archaeological Ceramic, Bead and Shell Remains and External Trade Relations from the Historic City of Vadnagar, Gujarat

Job description

The selected candidate is expected to work primarily in the field of Materials Science & Engineering and conduct several characterizations of archaeological ceramic samples using SEM, EDS, optical microscope, polarizing microscope, XRD, Archimedes principle, BET etc. The candidate may have to carry out some sintering experiments and compositional analysis. A candidate having prior experience in ceramics and characterizations are preferable.

Eligibility

B.Tech/M. Tech/M.Sc. in Materials Science/Materials Engineering/Metallurgy/Ceramic Science or Engineering/Archaeological Science or allied fields is essential. Candidates who have submitted their thesis are also eligible. Applicants who have cleared one of the National Eligibility Tests-CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE or National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER etc. are preferred.

Applicants are expected to be proficient in (a) experimental research, (b) data acquisition and critical analysis, and (c) oral and written scientific communication skills. Candidates with good academic track record and publication/s are desirable. An interest in Archaeological Sciences and fieldwork is desirable but not essential.

Duration:

Initial appointment of 1 year. Can be extendable depending on the performance.

Salary:

31,000 Rs. to 35,000 Rs. per month depending on the eligibility (as per funding agency norms)
