Navigating the Anthropocene: understanding the human dimensions of mammal occurrence and conservation in a multi-use montane landscape of Darjeeling hills, West Bengal

SCOPE & ACCOUNTABILITY

We are seeking two interns to work as translators/transcribers for a Doctoral research project.

  • These interns will be responsible for translating/transcribing recorded interviews from Hindi and Nepali into English.
  • There is also an opportunity to assist in conducting interviews in villages for those interested in fieldwork.
  • The interns will report to our Doctoral Fellow, Shreya. Interns will have the chance to learn about the scope of human-mammal interactions in the Darjeeling hills, develop skills in techniques used for data entry, organization and participate in data collection through systematic interview design.
  • Upon successful completion, CWS will provide a certificate of internship.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Translation of completed interviews and conversations from Nepali/Hindi to English.
  • Maintaining a database of completed tasks and ongoing work.
  • Conduct interviews in villages of Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong in West Bengal if interested in the field component

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in wildlife conservation, environmental science, social science or any related field.
  • A good working knowledge of written and spoken Nepali, Hindi and English.
  • High organizational skills and ability to work independently and remotely.
  • Must be available full-time/part-time for 3 months beginning May 2024
  • Preferably have a two-wheeler license and ability to drive in the hilly terrains if interested in the field component
