The University of Essex is offering 10 scholarships to applicants who are ordinarily resident in India, are media professionals, and have successfully ensured the participation in the University of Essex Media Fellowship Programme.
About the Scholarship
The University of Essex Media Fellowship Programme is aimed at media content creators and journalists keen on developing their skills in multimedia contexts. The goal of the Fellowship
Programme is to provide the media content creators with the skills and resources they need to create across media, and in particular, podcasts. The fellowship programme lasts for ten months, of which three months in the period of June-August 2024 are dedicated to the summer residential programme consisting of in-person courses on the University’s Colchester campus. This scholarship supports the fellows to undertake this in-person summer programme.
The successful applicants will receive the following:
- a full tuition fee discount for the attendance of the University of Essex Media Fellowship Programme courses for three months
- full board accommodation (accommodation and food) at Colchester campus for three months(June-August 2024)
- a stipend payment towards your living costs while in the UK of £5,075
- Flights and travel costs (arranged by University of Essex staff)
Terms and conditions
Eligibility
- Applicants must be ordinarily resident in India (see below for the definition of ordinary residence).
- Applicants must be media content creators that have already produced at least one piece of media content in the public domain.
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
- This scholarship is available for the residential part of the University of Essex Media Fellowship Programme only, which takes place over a period of three months June-August 2024.
- Receipt of the scholarship is subject to applicants being selected for and firmly accepting the offer of study in the University of Essex Media Fellowship Programme. The details about the selection for the Fellowship Programme is outlined in the University of Essex Media Fellowship Programme application form.
- If you are offered a place on the programme, you will be asked to sign a Fellow Code of Conduct.
Your participation in the program is conditional upon your signing of the Fellow Code of Conduct.

The award cannot be held in conjunction with any other University of Essex scholarships.
What is “Ordinary Residence”?
For the purposes of assessing eligibility for the scholarship, you must have been ordinarily resident in one of the listed country for the three-year period prior to commencing your course. Ordinarily resident means that you must have been habitually, normally and lawfully, residing in one of the countries listed, from choice, for the specified period. The three-year period for the course starting in June 2024
is calculated as 1 June 2021 to 1 June 2024.

You will need to apply for place to study on the University of Essex Media Fellowship Programme at the same time as you apply for funding. There is one single form to apply for the Fellowship Programme and to apply for the related Scholarship and it must be accompanied by a personal

Selection process
The selection process will be managed by the University of Essex with relevant further expertise.
Payment arrangements
The tuition fee discount as part of this scholarship will be made available as a reduction on the tuition fee that is payable on registration at the University. Payment cannot be offset against a tuition fee deposit if one is required.
The stipend will be paid in one lump sum via BACS into your nominated bank account, following successful registration onto the University of Essex Media Fellowship Programme course.
Termination of Scholarship
The University will terminate a scholarship if a student ceases to be registered as a studenton/participant in the University of Essex Media Fellowship Programme course, or for good cause at the
discretion of the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities or their nominee for this purpose.
Data Privacy Statement
The University of Essex takes confidentiality very seriously. Your application form will only be seen by
members of staff involved in processing your application and the selection panel for the University of Essex Media Fellowship Programme. Information is kept in accordance with the General Data
Protection Regulation (GDPR) as it applies in the UK, tailored by the Data Protection Act 2018.
Personal data will be used solely for statistical purposes and electronic record keeping and may be made available to authorised University staff to allow statistical information to be analysed.
This data will not be passed to any other third party without your consent, except when the University is required to do so by law or under contractual obligations relevant for this programme.
Resolution of disputes
Acceptance of this award constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions. Registered students should contact Ms Carrie Pickett, Faculty Operations Manager, Faculty of Arts and Humanities in the
first instance for guidance regarding this award. In cases not covered by the above terms and conditions, or where a participant in the University of Essex Media Fellowship Programme claims exceptional circumstances, or disputes a decision not to make payments due under an award, final appeals on decisions regarding eligibility must be made via the Executive Dean, Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The Academic Registrar or their nominee will review the case and his/her decision will be final.
