About the Winter School

This is a 12-day long residential programme, intended for Research Scholars/Post Graduate students, Teachers and Professionals. The school shall focus to provide hands-on experience to boost the capability and potential of the participants. ICFOSS aspire to make this a national event by inviting prominent speakers from the academic community and the industry.
International Centre for Free and Open Source Software (ICFOSS) is an autonomous organization set up by the Government of Kerala, has a combined mandate of popularizing Free and Open Source Software for universal use; consolidating the early FOSS work done in Kerala; and networking with different nations, communities, and Governments to collaboratively promote FOSS. ICFOSS is the outcome of a decade of work by Free Software enthusiasts, advocates, developers, and supporters in the state of Kerala and outside. ICFOSS today carries out a number of FOSS-related activities in a model that brings together Academia, Industry, Government, and the FOSS Community. ICFOSS is conducting its fourth installment of 12 days long, residential program, Winter School 2023 on “Machine Translation and Natural Language Processing”. We are conducting this programme as a part of the Gender & Technology Program, hence 100% of seats are reserved for Women Candidates. This programme mainly aims to improve women participation in FOSS communities. The winter school focuses on developing confidence in participants and making them improve their inventiveness. It also aims at providing hands-on experience to boost their capability. The sessions are Project Oriented i.e. the content covers practical with concepts of theoretical knowledge. ICFOSS aspires to make this a national event and intends to invite national as well as local prominent speakers fit for the mission. Talks and workshops shall go hand in hand to deliver an immersive learning experience and undertake a project at the end of the camp.
Target Audience
Research Scholars/Post Graduate students, Teachers and Professionals from IT field are the targeted audience of the Winter School. The number of seats for the programe is limited to 30.
