Anita Desai’s work showcases feminine sensibility, existential predicament, psychological turmoil and subjugation. Her palette is not just coloured with women’s suffering, rather it reflects complexity of human existence in general. Her creative methods and thematic concerns have allowed her to carve out a special and important place for herself. She is the recipient of 1978 Sahitya Akademi award for her novel Fire on the Hill (1977).
