The rapid technological advances and the ever-changing digital world have increased the challenges of cyber risks. IT security, cybersecurity and privacy protection have become vital for companies and organizations today. To address these concerns, it is necessary to exercise the required controls. These controls and best practices are defined in a set of standards. These standards, published by ISO, are designed to meet the expectations and requirements of organizations of all sizes across all types of business sectors.
ISO/IEC 27001 family of standards are the world’s best-known for information security management systems (ISMS) and their requirements. Together, they enable organizations of all sectors and sizes to manage the security of assets such as financial information, intellectual property, employee data and information entrusted by third parties. These standards are designed to protect information and ICT and include generic methods, techniques, and guidelines to address security and privacy aspects.
This information-sharing session aims to briefly deliberate on the overview of these standards to sensitize the professional community to understand and plan to address security concerns of assets and information in cyberspace
About the Resource Person
Dr. Umesh Nandwani is a Postgraduate in Physics from IIT Delhi (1983), worked in the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Bengaluru and Ahmedabad in R&D, and MeitY/STQC in Standards and Certification in Electronics and IT. He is Chair of various Technical committees in the National Standards Organisation (BIS), India. He superannuated in Jan 2020 as Director General STQC, presently involved in advocacy to increase the use of standards in policy formulation and compliance in Industry and social life.
