Project name: Role of Connexin-47 in axon myelin interaction during viral induced demyelination of the central nervous system.
Brief Description: Connexin47 is a gap junction protein expressed in the myelinating glial cells,
oligodendrocytes, of the central nervous system. Loss of oligodendrocyte gap junctions is closely associated with demyelination in Multiple Sclerosis patients and in animal models of the disease. The current study is focused towards understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms of altered Cx47 gap junctions in a virus-induced demyelinating model and its relevance to the human demyelinating pathology.
