National Institute of Technology Calicut, an Institute of National Importance, invites Professor of Practice, Visiting and Adjunct Faculty positions from reputed Industries, R&D Institutions, National and International universities, to promote excellence and leadership in teaching and research as well as to facilitate wider and deeper interactions of NIT Calicut faculty, students and researchers in all the specialization of its functioning departments, schools and centres. All these are offline positions. Highly motivated and dynamic industry personnel, academicians/professionals possessing excellent academic background, having commitment and passion to quality teaching and potential for pursuing cutting-edge research are encouraged to apply.
Modes of engagement, eligibility, duration, honorarium and allowance
Professor of Practice (Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor)
Categories of Engagement;
i) Funded by Industries
ii) Funded by the Institute
- Objective: Eminent persons from the industry or R&D organisations can be engaged as Professors of Practice, who would be expected to spend full time in the Institute, help to enrich the experience of students by bringing deep understanding and appreciation of the best practices as applied in real world settings in a particular field of study. Additionally, they would help promote the integration of academic scholarship with the practical experience of professionals in a given field.
- Duration of the assignment: 1 year, can be extended up to 3 years, or up to the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.
- Eligibility: Candidates should have reasonable (minimum 10) years of technical, managerial or professional experience. They should have at least a bachelor degree in Engineering/Architecture/Design/Medicine or Master’s degree in Sciences/ Humanities/Management/Education/Law or related fields. Ph.D. is desirable but not essential. Depending on the years of experience, the person may be offered the position of Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor of Practice. Retired
- persons from industry/ R&D organisations also will be considered. Professor of Practice posts are not open for those who are in teaching profession.
- Honorarium: The monthly honorarium for each of these positions will be INR 1.2 Lakhs, 1.0 Lakhs and 0.8 lakhs respectively for Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor of Practice.
- Allowances: Monthly allowances up to INR 20,000 (reimbursable basis)
- TDS will be applicable as per GoI rules
- Accommodation on chargeable basis subject to availability
Visiting Faculty: (Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor)
- Objective: In this mode of engagement, the visiting faculty would spend full time in the Institute interacting with faculty members and students. The visiting faculty positions can be offered at Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor levels based on qualification and experience. Retired persons will also be considered, except for faculty retired from NIT Calicut.
- Duration of the assignment: 1 year, can be extended up to 3 years, or up to the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.
- Eligibility: Eminent scientists, engineers, other professionals working in renowned R&D organizations and faculty members from the institutes of national importance holding permanent post are eligible to apply as visiting faculty. Qualifications and experience will be similar to those of regular faculty, i.e. the person must possess PhD and minimum of 10/6/3 years of post-PhD research/industrial experience in the relevant domains at reputed organisations for the levels of Professor/Associate/ Assistant Professor levels respectively.
- Honorarium: The monthly honorariums for each of these positions will be INR 1.2 Lakhs, 1.0 Lakhs and 0.8 lakhs respectively for Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor.
- Allowance: Eligible for INR 20,000/- (maximum) on reimbursable basis
- TDS will be applicable as per GoI rules
- Accommodation on chargeable basis subject to availability
Adjunct Faculty: (Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor)
- Objective: In this mode of engagement, the adjunct faculty would spend short durations at NIT Calicut on regular intervals. All academic activities will be shared with an institute faculty member. The adjunct faculty positions can be offered at Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor levels based on qualification and experience. Retired persons will also be considered, except for faculty retired from NIT Calicut.
- Duration of the assignment: 1 year, can be extended up to 3 years, or up to age of 70 years, whichever is earlier. If planning on multiple visits, each visit should be of minimum one week.
- Eligibility: Eminent scientists, engineers, other professionals working in renowned R&D organizations and faculty members from the institutes of national importance holding permanent post are eligible to apply as adjunct faculty. Qualifications and experience will be similar to those of regular faculty, i.e. the person must possess PhD and minimum of 10/6/3 years of post-PhD research/industrial experience in the relevant domains at reputed organisations for the levels of Professor/Associate/ Assistant Professor levels respectively.
- Honorarium: The honorariums will be INR 7000 per day subject to maximum monthly ceiling of INR 1.2 Lakhs, 1.0 Lakhs and 0.8 lakhs respectively for Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor.
- Allowances: Monthly allowances up to INR 20,000 (reimbursable basis)
- TDS will be applicable as per GoI rules
- Accommodation on chargeable basis subject to availability
Selection Process
All positions shall be appointed by the Director based on the recommendations of a duly constituted screening cum selection committee. All are short term contract positions only, initially for a period of one year, extendable for a total period of 3 years, or up to the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier. The extension will be based on performance and on the recommendation of the committee. Reputed scientists, engineers, physicians, civil servants, technocrats, financial experts, entrepreneurs, architects, managers, experts in media, literature, fine arts, legal profession, public administration, armed forces, designers and other professionals, can be considered for the above faculty positions based on the eligibility as mentioned above. Director has the right to consider applications of exceptionally good
candidates not falling in the above mentioned criteria. Persons appointed as Professor of Practice/Visiting Faculty/Adjunct Faculty will have no right or claim for regular appointment or continuance of the post in NIT Calicut, other than the terms specified above. Director has the right to terminate the positions at any stage, under extreme circumstances.

The received applications will be scrutinised twice in a year, (every July and November).
