Upon successful completion of training and commissioning into the rank of Lieutenant (Army), Sub Lieutenant (Navy), or Flying Officer (Air Force), the regular pay starts at Level 10 (Rs. 56,100 - Rs. 1,77,500) plus Military Service Pay (MSP) of Rs. 15,500/- per month, Dearness Allowance (DA), and multiple location-based or hazard allowances (such as Flying Allowance.

Selection Procedure: The selection procedure is carried out in two distinct stages: Written Examination: Conducted by the UPSC, comprising objective-type papers in Mathematics and General Ability Test (GAT) marked on OMR sheets. There is a penalty (negative marking) for wrong answers. SSB Interview / Personality Test: Candidates who successfully pass the written standard are called by the Services Selection Board (SSB) for intelligence and personality tests, which include group tests, psychological evaluations, and personal interviews. Candidates opting for the Air Force Flying Branch must additionally qualify the Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS).
